The Christmas Tree Farm Experience

We believe getting your Christmas tree should be more than a chore on your To-Do list. Imagine wandering through the fields looking for "the one" with your family while you enjoy the sounds of Christmas music, the smells of the pines and fresh air, and the taste of hot cocoa. This is what the Christmas Tree farm experience is all about. We hope your visit to Hidden Lake Christmas Tree Farm will lead to unforgettable family memories and Christmas tradition you look forward to every year!

We are a family owned and operated farm located in Port Republic, MD and have approximately 3 acres of Cut-Your-Own Norway Spruce trees and a large selection of pre-cut trees. We also sell wreaths and Christmas decor crafted at the farm. We open the weekend after Thanksgiving on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays from 9-5. Sunday, December 1st update (heads up we are NOT closed yet) 📣

We have officially closed our choose and cut fields for the 2024 season. We have hit our number of trees to cut from the field in order to have enough supply to open the fields next season.

BUT we are still open selling beautiful pre-cut Fraser and Balsam firs! With over 175 pre-cut trees on display at a time, we have a full and beautiful selection of fresh pre-cut trees ranging from 6-11ft.

The Cocoa Cabin will be open serving fresh hot chocolate, coffee, and kettle corn! We will still have our wreaths and garland as well. You don’t wanna miss out on the Christmas tree farm atmosphere! ✨

Wow! Today left us all speechless. We can’t thank all of our customers enough for helping us celebrate opening day! 🤗 A little update on what we have available: Our choose and cut field is getting limited, with most trees in the 7’-8’ range. We have an excellent selection of pre-cut Balsam & Fraser Fir 6’-11’ with a few 12-13’ left! We can’t wait to see you all tomorrow and Sunday!

2024 Tree Season Details ⬇️
⏰ We open at 9 am on Friday, November 29th! We will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until we sell out. We will be open from 9-5 each day.

🌲 We will have various sizes and types of trees! Our choose & cut trees are Norway Spruce and White Pine. Sizes will range from 7’ - 12’+. Our pre-cut tree varieties include Fraser Fir, Balsam Fir, and Canaan Fir. These will range in size from 6’ - 13’. All trees available for sale will have a white tag with the type, size, and price.

🎄 We will have a huge assortment of handmade garland and wreaths! New this year, we will be offering Fraser Fir garland, White Pine garland, & Fraser & Pine mix garland!

☕️ The Cocoa Cabin will be stocked with freshly brewed coffee, warm cider, different types of specialty hot chocolate, kettle corn, and of course our Hidden Lake mugs!

🍩 @madbyrdconfections will be at the farm on Friday and Saturday of opening weekend with delicious donuts!

🚫 What not to bring: You cannot bring your own chainsaw! We have saws on the farm for you to use if you cut down your tree! We will bail your tree in netting and provide the rope for tying the tree onto your car.

🐶 You can bring your pup! Your pup must remain on the leash at all times. Please pick up after your dog even if you are out in the field! People are going to be walking through the fields of trees so it’s likely someone will step in if you don’t pick it up!

🎉 We have NEW merch this year!!! We’ll be sharing our new merch design this weekend. We also will have more colors to choose from!

Do you know how old your tree is? The average tree that you take home (6’-8’) ends up being about 7-8 years old! The rings on a tree stump tell its age! Each ring represents a year of growth, giving us a glimpse into the tree’s life. Last year, we cut down this 17-year-old tree, which proudly displayed 17 rings! It took four of us to cut it down and haul it onto the trailer, ready to bring holiday joy to our customer’s home.

When counting rings, it’s fascinating to note that each one can tell a story about the growing conditions, from healthy growth to periods of stress. So next time you admire your Christmas tree, remember the years of life and stories it carries! 🎄✨ 19 days left till we see you all on the farm!

Every year as we approach a new Christmas Tree Season I reflect on our family and farm. It’s one of those things that makes my heart feel full (I often pray each of you feel the same way when you come to our farm too!). Family and farm are two very special things to us here at Hidden Lake Christmas Tree Farm.

Over the years we’ve made new friendships with each of you. We truly consider each of you part of farm family because without you and your support we couldn’t do what we do! So this year when you make your decision on where to get your Christmas tree, keep in mind family farms need and absolutely love your support! It goes a long way to support your local family farms.

This year our family farm picture has grown and I’ve witness the love in our family grow even stronger! For the 2024 Christmas Tree season we welcome a couple new little farmers to the family. Over the last decade of tree farming, I’ve heard all kinds of comments about our work. Most are supportive, but some make me laugh out loud. One of the funniest was, “Wow, this must be so easy: 1.) Plant the tree, 2.) Let it grow, 3.) Someone else cuts it down, 4.) You get paid, and 5.) A new tree just pops up!” If only it were that simple!

Now I did laugh out loud when I was told that but then I quickly remembered one of the most important responsibilities we have as farmers. That is to educate people on what it takes to produce an agricultural product. That is part of our job because many people do not get to see the “behind the scenes” of farming no matter what type it is. During the summer months the work on the farm is far from over. In reality it’s when some of the most labor intensive work takes place like trimming – or as we call it, “haircut season.”

Christmas trees don’t naturally grow into a perfect cone shape. It takes years of careful trimming to shape them just right. We start with the leader branch, making precise cuts to encourage balanced growth. Next is the trees lateral branches aka the side branches. Trimming the side branches is where the shape game really comes into play. You don’t wanna take too much and you don’t wanna take too little! While trimming your imagining a cone trying to maintain a proper taper so the tree is uniform all the way around.

This Christmas when you’re picking out the perfect tree, take a look at some of the precise cuts that have been made over the years. There is a method that goes into Christmas tree trimming we strive to provide you with the very best and healthiest trees for years to come!

Here on our small family farm, spring and summer are nothing short of magical. We have loved watching our Christmas trees undergo some truly impressive growth over these warmer months. Although this summer season threw some challenges our way including a little drought and record high heat indexes, it’s a season of transformation that never ceases to amaze us.
